An enjoyable prelude

A real video this time! Ushuaia is the biggest city in the very southernmost tip of Argentina. In addition to being a popular gateway to Antarctica, Ushuaia is an interesting city in its own right. I planned to arrive a couple of days before my boat departed as a safety measure – canceled flights, missed connections, lost luggage might all be solved in those days. I’m glad I had those extra days – not becuase I needed them, but because they gave me time to explore a new place.

I love to explore. Amazingly, as I explored Ushuaia I found a connection that brought back wonderful memories of my first huge adventure almost 60 years ago. The Triumph Cafe and Motorcycle Shop still sells motorcycles very similar to the one I rode for thousands of miles during my “hippie-year” bumming around Europe!

Of course, I spent my extra days exploring video as I explored Ushuaia. Now I hope you enjoy the results of those days …

Next – I finally start my trip!

Thank you for sharing the very tip of South America. A video brings your story much more to life. What gorgeous snow capped mountains and a bustling town. Love it.

Very nice Barry. I enjoyed the commentary. We could still make out your background exclamation about the vintage (LOL) motorcycle. Funny how the unexpected can bring back such old memories. Aren’t you still a hippy? 🙂

    1. Sadly Bill – I don’t think I qualify as a hippie any more, if I ever did. I’m in that between generation: too young to be a beatnik and too old to be a hippie. Maybe I can still pretend …

It’s great to see the town and surrounding area that you left from. I had no idea what that area was like!

    1. Marilyn – I know you like to travel as much as I do. Perhaps if Ron is still using his GoPro he can email me video some of your trips. I love to see it! Or have Joe send me a link to some of his trip pictures!

      Safe travels! – barry

  11. Ushuaia

Been there four times Barry. First time, on an Overseas Adventure Travel trekking trip to Patagonia – trip name “The Wilderness Beyond.” After trekking Patagonia, we boarded a boat in Punta Arenas and headed down the Beagle Channel cumulating with a landing on Cape Horn. It was here, standing high on a bluff, looking south out over the Drake Passage I realized there was another whole continent out there, Antarctica, and I pledged that I would someday go. We disembarked in Ushuaia – visit number one.

Visit two. Booked a trip with Overseas Adventure Travel to Antarctica. Got to Ushuaia. Night before we were to embark, there was a catastrophic failure in an electrical panel on the M/V. Corinthian, the boat that was to take us to Antarctica. Nothing to do but go back home.

Visits three and four. Spent a day and night each time in Ushuaia before boarding the boat to Antarctica. My favorite place was not the Triumph dealership but a restaurant, La Cantina de Freddy. Famous for crab, but I like the sea bass. I’d go back again just for the meal. There is a short clip of the restaurant on the video I sent you about my second trip to Antarctica.

Some stray audio in your video, easily removed with editing software. Narration is great. You are taking the suggestions from your audience and applying them to your videos. Noticed wind noise in the clip when you exited the airport to get taxi into town. Wind socks over the microphone can eliminate this. I was even able to put a windsock over the small pinhole microphone in my Cannon point and shoot. They come as small dime size fluffy material with a sticky tape on the back. Wind problem solved! Multiple audio tracks playing at the same time in the clip of the motorcycle in the window and other clips in this video. Where did these come from? Edit them out. Great video!
