Streets are the entry point to the spirit of New Orleans – streets which show us variation and complexity beyond the music.

Morning, an army of workers is needed to clean up after all yesterday’s visitors.

Performers and vendors prep to create the environment for revelry.

Restaurant workers are everywhere – but most often go unnoticed.

Poverty and pain is ignored,

while the service of so many supports the the entire city.

Visitors build their own worlds within all that swirls around them.

Preservation Hall may be the greatest symbol of New Orleans.

But many people wait in their own worlds to get in to this music Mecca.

Some people create unique shows that keep the streets alive.

Some visitors join in the shows.

Some simply immerse themselves in the music and dance.

While others focus on their own lives amid the glitter.

Perhaps, in the end, the spirit of New Orleans is in a selfie …
